For those of you who have called me “cowardly” for not answering your messages: this is why.
I am an incredibly popular blogger and you are among hundreds of people sending me messages. I apologize for just not having the time to answer them all.
Well this calls for a gif party!

Dear “pro-life” anti-choicers:
This is what your anti-abortion stance, your callous disregard for the people involved in an already fraught situation, does. This is the practical effect of your belief that you have a right to dictate and control someone else’s life.
I am so angry that you gleefully enact laws that make people suffer, that put people through hours upon hours of unnecessary turmoil, that heaps one indignity upon them after another, all while you pat yourself on the back for a job well done and go back to your nice, cushy world where you don’t have to acknowledge the effects of your tyranny. I am furious that you are so choked with your own smug self righteousness that you are blinded the heartache and the reality of other’s situations—a heartache you have caused and magnified ten fold.
I am disgusted and contemptuous of your paternalism, that you think you know what’s best for anyone other than yourself, that you ignore and deny the rights of 50% of the population, deny the dignity of their humanity, because of “the children” and “the greater good” and “religion” and “morality.”
Allow me to express a sentiment from every fiber of my being: fuck you.

“I’m so sorry that I have to do this,” the doctor told us, “but if I don’t, I can lose my license.” Before he could even start to describe our baby, I began to sob until I could barely breathe. Somewhere, a nurse cranked up the volume on a radio, allowing the inane pronouncements of a DJ to dull the doctor’s voice. Still, despite the noise, I heard him. His unwelcome words echoed off sterile walls while I, trapped on a bed, my feet in stirrups, twisted away from his voice.
What do you mean it’s 2012? All evidence points to the contrary.
Utah women would have to wait three days before an abortion, the longest such waiting period in the country, under a proposal that won overwhelming approval from the House Monday with little debate.
“An abortion cannot be undone,” said Rep. Steve Eliason, R-Sandy. “Why would we not want to afford a woman facing a life-changing decision 72 hours to consider ramifications that could last a lifetime?”
HB461 would require a woman to wait 72 hours after receiving information on the procedures being used, the gestational stages of the fetus and services available if she chooses not to seek an abortion. Current Utah law imposes a 24-hour waiting period.
An amendment to the bill sought to ease the burden on women in rural areas by allowing them to get the counseling to start the clock from other providers, rather than having to go to the clinic that would provide the procedure.
The bill passed the House 59-11 and moves to the Senate for consideration before the Legislature adjourns Thursday.
[NB: This will affect more people than just cis women. And, as always, it will hurt poor people disproportionately.]
Also - should add, Utah does NOT have a 72-hr waiting period for purchasing a firearm.
I just…when will this bullshit end?

Oh my sweet baby Cthulhu. You are fucking kidding me. It boggles my mind how people can so rabidly follow a person and be so intentionally, aggressively ignorant of a) his actual politics and b) the practicalities of those politics.
Ron Paul absolutely has a political agenda when it comes to abortion. He’s saddled up with Personhood USA and signed their pledge to “oppose assisted suicide, euthanasia, embryonic stem cell research”; attack abortion rights “without exception and without compromise”; and, most importantly, “work to advance state and federal laws and amendments that recognize the unalienable right to life of all human beings as persons at every stage of development” and appoint judges who feel the same way.
He is on record as supporting a federal constitutional amendment to define life as starting at conception, thus making abortion illegal—has even authored a bill about it. He’s totally down with completely defunding all family planning, including birth control which LOWERS abortion rates, because of abortion. And if he ever WAS president, something that is thankfully never going to happen, does anyone honestly think he wouldn’t be nominating and appointing anti-choice people to every position he could find? (See: Personhood USA pledge.)
Saying that he has no political agenda concerning abortion is to willfully and intentionally ignore EVERY SINGLE THING he has ever said or done regarding reproductive rights.
…I have no words. [NSFW]
Students at the Norcross elementary school were given a math worksheet with questions that combined math word problems with examples of slavery. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that two questions from the worksheet were:
- “Each tree had 56 oranges. If 8 slaves pick them equally, then how much would each slave pick?”
- “If Frederick got two beatings per day, how many beatings did he get in 1 week?”
Following the incident, school district officials indicated that the principal of the school would work with teachers at the school, and help them develop more appropriate lessons, as well as offer additional opportunities for staff development. “Clearly, they did not do as good of a job as they should have done,” district spokeswoman Sloan Roach said.
O__O I have no words.
Why haven’t I seen mention of this in the mainstream “liberal” media?
“That was 2008, I think. Best eight seconds of my life.”
